Experience

I have been a middle and high school teacher in Connecticut and New York for the last five years. I have seen first hand the positive results of instruction that is both 1:1 and designed to build upon itself. My experience is broad and varied and spans across multiple departments. I've also partnered with many co-teachers in the Math and English departments. I have written and tested Individual Education Plans and taught pull-out literacy interventions. I also have extensive training in the area of student preparation for standardized testing as well as blending together my school's curriculum with Common Learning Standards. Outside the classroom, I have led the development of clubs such as culinary arts and theater to fill gaps in existing elective offerings. I have found that when I incorporate popular culture and current events to my teaching curriculum, the result is a dynamic and positive classroom environment. This carries over into how I view tutoring as well. There are a wide variety of tools, strategies, and techniques that enable a student to comprehend a complicated text or to create muscle memory around a process to transform a complex math problem into a simple one. And, doing this in an environment that is positive and accepting helps students gain a sense of ownership.
