Private tutor in North Stamford, CT

Education

• I have my Ph.D. In biochemistry and molecular biophysics from the medical college of Virginia where I graduated top of my class. • I have my B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in biochemistry and a minor in chemistry. • I hold a Connecticut professional teachers certification in both Biology and Chemistry that was earned through Connecticut's Alternate Route to Certification program and years of teaching high school. • I was awarded the "recognition of excellence" in both Chemistry and Biology on the praxis subject tests. (This is awarded to the top 1% of the teachers in the nation on their content exams)

Experience

• I have been tutoring for over seven years (both one on one and in small group settings). I have tutored all levels of biology and chemistry in addition to physical science, biochemistry and environmental science. Every student I have tutored has achieved at least an A- OR their grades improved by at least two full letter grades. Many students have achieved both. • As a high school teacher, the students in my class consistently have scores 15-30 percentage points above the district average on midterms and finals for the same respective class level every year. (I have been teaching high school for almost a decade) • Most recently, 16 of 42 students in my class elected to take the SAT subject test in chemistry (700 was the lowest score, 750 average score and one student scored an 800). This raised district grades to 50 points above state average from 5 points below state average. • I am a very patient tutor. I work diligently to make certain you understand the complex/difficult subject matter and can apply it. I will explain and provide notes in simplified terms and will ensure that you have a through grasp of the complex scientific terms so that you will be able to converse properly and understand the textbook and phrasing of questions on this subject matter (national exams such as finals). • As your tutor, I will clearly explain the subject matter, and help you with your homework, quiz, test and exam preparation. When you have difficulty solving problems, I am very good at identifying the step (or steps) causing you difficulty in the process and helping you overcome them; or if it is a misunderstanding of concepts, clearing that up so we can move forward. I am very organized and through in both explaining and presenting concepts. I frequently find that many students need this structure and organization to see how different concepts are related. • As your tutor, I will help you with your laboratory reports / journal articles. I can demystify the process and make certain the labs are written in a clear, concise manner without omitting any necessary content. I will help you learn how to identify what is needed in a lab report and present it in an appropriate manner. This will serve you for any laboratory preparation from high school (or advanced middle school) through to graduate school. I have been published in peer reviewed journals in the field of biochemistry and did my postdoctoral fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. • I truly care about your achievements and helping you succeed. My schedule is quite flexible and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
